Why Realtors Should Use Pinterest (& how)
“Realtors should become the Mayor of their town.”
-Gary Vee
It seems unheard of to put any time and effort into Pinterest as a Realtor. And I understand why. Most people think of Keto Thanksgiving Recipes when they think about Pinterest. and rightly so. It seems like a thing utilized mostly by moms but this couldn’t be further from the whole story.
“A survey of Pinterest users in the US found that 34% of people aged 18-29 years used Pinterest in 2019, as did 35% of those aged 30-49 and 27% of those aged 50-64.
Pinterest also gets much usage from those earning more than $75,000 (41%) and those with a college degree and above (38%).” (see source)
Chances are, your ideal client is on Pinterest. Right now. Searching through images of house design ideas and furniture shopping for that house they haven’t found yet. Maybe they have a relator already, or maybe they are looking for one that they connect more with? In comes you with your curated pins and boards that speak to them and show the real human side of you! But what are the true reasons you should be putting yourself or your business on Pinterest professionally.
Website Traffic -
Each of your pins that you create and put out into the pinterverse can be linked to a specific blog on your website. Don’t have a blog up and running? We can link your pins to an IG post! But really, if you have informational posts going out, why not expand on those points, put together a blog, and drive even more traffic to your website. This will set you apart as an expert and more trustworthy. You can show your knowledge of the housing market, staging, buying and selling steps, the list goes on!
Leads-
About 90% of people start their search online before making a move. They look into perspective neighborhoods to move to. If you are already there on Pinterest showing how well you know the area they are considering, it gives a ton of credit to your reliability.
Market Research-
if you are ever unsure about what to share from your other social profiles or on your blog, search on Pinterest! Simply typing in “Cleveland” and you’ll see “biking through Cleveland” or “weekend staycations in Cleveland.” You can write blogs based on what your potential customers might be in search of for the area they are moving. More ways to get yourself and your website in front of them.
Real Estate Farming-
Nowadays we don’t mail out postcards to potential buyers or sellers. Now there are even easier ways to market yourself that are cheaper. Creating curated boards showing the highlights of your area can make you the “Mayor” of your town. You now become the go-to relator for that area. Lot’s of traffic, leads, and sales coming your way.
Social Proof-
Like it or not, people take you more seriously if you have your social media presence established and professional. Busy couples looking for their next move find a relevent and savvy realtor working in their desired are will far more appealing to the random business card left at their open house. By showing that you can market yourself effectively on Pinterest, you establish a trust with potential sellers that you can apply the same expertise to selling their home.
Ok, so how do we do all of this? I thought you’d never ask! It’s my heart to share these tips with you but in a balanced and profitable way. I know the busy and hectic lifestyle of realtors. Ok, details……
Convert Your Account
If you’ve been using Pinterest for personal use, or maybe a mix of both pro and personal, it’s time to make the switch. Create a new business account with all your business informationan and claim your website. Or use your personal account and convert it to business. Either way, you need the professional one to track analytics to see what is working and people are repinning.
Use Keywords
Keywords are to Pinterest that hashtags are to IG. Use them strategically in your bio and board descriptions. This will tell Pinterest who these boards are for and will get you more exposure. Not sure what keywords are or how to use them? Let’s connect!
Brand Friendly Photos
While the beautiful images of the homes listed in your area or clients you’ve worked with are awesome, you also need to include your face! On brand photos of yourself, not taken with your phone, will show a professional and personable expert clients will feel more comfortable with. I highly suggest working with a brand photographer. They have a unique eye for capturing you that differs from wedding photographers.

Consistency
Now here’s the big one that usually keeps people from success on Pinterest; CONSISTENCY. You should be pinning about 10 pins a day. Yes, ten. And about 70% of that content should NOT be yours. There are a lot of applications that help automate this but my fav is Tailwind.
Consistency should also apply to branding. Colors, font, layout, and board topics. You should have a clear and consistent style of your pins and of your own content. If you need help with ths, again this can be a job for your friendly neighborhood Pinterest Guru (me!)
